Wesley A. King, MD

Wesley A. King, M.D. is recognized both nationally and internationally in the fields of minimally-invasive, endoscopic, pituitary, and skull base neurosurgery as we as spinal surgery. He is one of the foremost experts in the world in the use of “key hole” approaches to treat a wide range of brain and spine disorders including pituitary adenomas, meningiomas, gliomas, schwannomas, trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm, intracranial aneurysms, peripheral nerve disorders such as carpal tunnel syndrome. His focus has included these conditions as well as spinal cord tumors, diseases of the cervical spine and disorders of the cervico-medullary junction such as Chiari malformations.

As one of the original pioneers of endoscopic neurosurgery, Dr. King has championed innovative, minimally-invasive neurosurgery techniques for treating diseases of the brain and spine, and has lectured widely and been a resident and fellowship mentor at acclaimed institutions that include serving on the faculty at UCLA Medical Center, Mount Sinai Medical School, and NYU Medical Center. Dr. King is also credentialed in Gamma Knife Radiosurgery, a highly-specialized radiation therapy.

Dr. King has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. His groundbreaking text book on “Endoscopy of the Central and Peripheral Nervous System” was one of the first books published on this innovative topic and laid the foundation for a new subspecialty of neurosurgery.

He is board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and is an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the International Society of Pituitary Surgeons, the North American Skull Base Society, the Pituitary Society, the California Medical Association, and Western Neurosurgery Society.

Dr. King was born and raised in Los Angeles. He attended at Harvard University, graduating with honors in Biochemistry before completing medical school at Johns Hopkins. Dr. King then went on to complete his surgical internship and neurosurgery residency at UCLA . In 1992, he trained as a fellow at Nordstadt Hospital in Hannover, Germany, under Dr. Madjid Samii, one of the world’s experts in skull base surgery, he then returned to UCLA to serve as a faculty member until 1995 when he joined the neurosurgery department at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. Dr. King returned to Los Angeles in 2004 and has a his practice based at Cedars Sinai, Santa Monica-UCLA and St John’s Medical Centers. In 2006 he has been elected by his peers as being one of the Best Doctors in America.
